CLA Learning Artifact
In the CLA section, I have chosen to analyze the following courses: Introduction to Strategic Communication, Systemic Design and Research, and Statistics for Strategic Communication. I think that the artifacts that I have attached are best able to exemplify my ability to analyze and synthesize, in order to meet the CLA objective A. I felt that these courses have helped me to apply new concepts, theories, methods, and skills to my Spring 2021 internship. I interned virtually for a start-up company in Berlin, Germany, developing visual tools for academic knowledge to be used by academic scholars in order to help them develop an online curriculum.
In my daily tasks, I was asked how I could enhance and better the start-up company with the use of my skills from my Strategic Communication course. Some of the skills that I had learned was writing an analysis of a real company in the format of a booklet, along with helpful and alternate ways to improve how the company is handling internal and external communication. During my internship, I was able to directly translate these skills of new concepts and methods into my internship by suggesting new ways to expand, with research.
As for my Systemic Design class, this was able to show me that while ordinary objects and ways in which humans operate would not necessarily be overlooked, everything is a system. This was again shown in my internship when I was tasked to think of new concepts that were not included in their database, create a sketch of my initial thought, and directly transcribe the sketch into a computer-shaped object.
The last class that helped me to analyze is my Research and Statistics in Strategic Communication class. This class helped me to read data and then categorize it into two subcategories: Quantitative and Qualitative. This skill allowed me to compare statistical data from their competitors and translate the information into a comprehensible format so that the developers were informed of any new technological advances they could add to their ideas.
