1. Develop and articulate content knowledge and critical thinking in a specific academic discipline through frequent practice of informal and formal writing;

Throughout this course, I was tasked with further improving the writing skills learned in Academic Writing I. This was done with practice through informal and formal writing. This can be seen in the journal document, highlighting informal daily assignments needing to be completed, which is directed towards an organization that needed overall improvement and could potentially hire me as an intern. The two other documents that I uploaded are examples of a more formal approach to writing. I needed to create a sample cover letter explaining why I wanted to work there, and a resume indicating skill sets that I have learned or already knew. Providing my resume, allowed the sample organization to understand me in a professional manner and understand why I want to be considered for a spot to work at this organization.

2. Demonstrate understanding of audience expectations, genres, and conventions appropriate to communicating in a specific academic profession or related profession;

The artifacts that I felt have demonstrated an understanding of the audience’s expectations, genres, and conventions appropriate to communicating in a specific academic profession include the document titled Informal Proposal Alexie Rodriguez, Alexie Rodriguez Cover Letter, Alexie Rodriguez Resume 2020, Writing for the workplace official Proposals for CTA. In these artifacts, each one fulfills the audience’s expectation in a professional manner through proposals, a cover letter, my resume, and my overall composition including suggestions and a whole analysis on the organization that I chose (CTA- Chicago Transit Authority). In my document labeled Informal Proposal Alexie Rodriguez, I highlighted multiple criteria that I think the CTA could improve upon, especially last year during Covid-19. I first composed a cover letter to Gary Shapiro requesting an opportunity to intern at the CTA and to use the skills that my CMD degree has taught me to suggest areas of improvement. Next, I had to analyze and make an external audience clear as to the changes I was proposing; starting with their logo, looking at their mission statement, what type of service they provide as well as, how many people are served daily. In the next task, I had to compose a SWOT Analysis on CTA to make them aware of any ways that their service can decline because they are not catering enough to people’s needs. In the fourth assignment, I composed research to further help the CTA improve in providing efficient and safe ways for people to ride the subway. Lastly, I further analyzed the costs of repairs or additional requests and indicated how the CTA can properly budget providing masks and other safety equipment to people in need during a global pandemic.
